As we enter the late part of the spring season, and begin to ease into the hot, sticky summer months, there’s an eagerness to start shedding layers and putting those heavy winter jackets in storage until Jack Frost graces us with his presence another day. Spring and summer are the perfect time for bright colors and feminine dresses. Among the styles to re-emerge is the wrap dress.
Watching the seasonal trends year after year I’m always fascinated when certain styles come back in fashion. Styles, especially evergreen ones, never really disappear. They just sort of get tucked away in the closet until their time to shine comes once more. I march to the beat of my own drum when it comes to the clothes that I wear, though, I do keep a careful eye on what’s trending in fashion right now. One of the styles that never really go out of fashion, but is emerging more prominently this spring, is animal prints.
As someone who loves wearing a ton of feminine clothes with a lot of soft colors, lace trim, or flirty floral patterns, spring is the season these type of styles thrive best. Warmer days are drawing near and soon it’ll be time to throw back those closet doors and take those spring pieces out of hibernation. I like owning a little of everything, from the most current styles to the classic ones. Fashion being cyclical, there’s always at least one or two tops or bottoms that can easily be worn again. Long skirts, or maxi skirts, is another style that dominated much of ’90s fashion along with clogs and crop tops. Despite the resurgence of these long and flowy skirts, I seem to not be taking part in this trend again.
Fashion trends in the last few years have been pretty lackluster for me. Going clothes shopping almost always had me leaving the stores empty handed. Nothing in the clothing racks really excited me or gave me an overwhelming sense of, “Buy me!” This has probably been a good thing for my closet space and wallet. With an upward trend and interest in more softer and feminine styles for the spring and summer seasons lately, I have a reason to get excited about shopping again and finding the clothes I really want to buy. The lace trend is the current addition to the ultra romantic and feminine looks I’ve been seeing making a comeback and I couldn’t be happier.
The best advice my mom has ever given to me when it comes to fashion and style is always keep a few items of clothing that aren’t necessarily classic styles in your closet. You’ll never know when something will be in fashion again. It’s a good thing this little piece of advice has stuck with me because one of my favorite fashion looks seem to be making a grand reappearance this spring––the bell sleeves.
When fashion and styles are mostly cyclical, you start to see certain items from a particular decade make a comeback. Having grown up during the ’90s, a lot of fashion trends from that time period has been reemerging, which I haven’t worn since I was a teenager in high school. Among the popular trends to see a revival are the crop tops.
Many of us, especially if you live on the east coast, are dreaming of spring. We want mild temperatures, abundant amounts of sunshine, and to see trees and flowers in bloom. Department stores tend to be way ahead of the season––tossing out all the winter gear and making way for the spring clothes. Prints are still looking hot this spring, which makes me really excited to know that among those popular prints are floral prints!
