Celebrating the birth of one’s blog may sound silly to some. As adults we begin to feel less enthusiastic about our birthdays and we almost wish we can forget it’s another year you’ve gotten a little older. But honoring the day or month your blog came to be is important for some of us because it’s a reminder that the very thing you made is still alive and going strong. I’m proud of my small corner of the Internet and I hope I never get tired of wanting to acknowledge it every year.
The official start of summer is June 21st and it’s about that time most people will be planning getaways, whether it be big or small. When you’re a working adult, it almost doesn’t matter when you take off for vacation. As long as there’s no conflict with work and personal schedules, you can go away any season. But one advantage of going away during the summer is the warmer weather. The clothes you pack will be lighter and there’s no need to lug around a bulky winter jacket, at least if you’re not heading to Antarctica. What’s with all this talk of vacations and summer? I’ll be heading out on my next adventure!
It has been quite a year for a lot of us and our reaction to it will vary for many of us based on our own personal experiences. I can’t say 2017 has always been smooth sailing for me. Aside from the worldwide emotional roller coaster we’re all collectively experiencing together, there have been my own personal bumps and struggles I endured at the start of 2017. I’m grateful for the turnaround I experienced just before the year ends and I’m in no way taking it for granted. You really do appreciate things more when you have to fight, struggle, and work your way through everything you do. Now that Christmas is behind me and New Year’s is not too faraway, a number of things are already coming up before I wave 2017 goodbye and embrace 2018.
The year 2017 has been a crazy one both on a more obvious, wider scale and maybe on a personal one for some. The year has affected me on a personal level, mostly good, and let’s be honest here—we all need to take some good away from the year. I don’t think I need to spell out why 2017 is effectively worse than years past. Because of my own personal whirlwind year, I completely forgot about my blog’s birthday or anniversary. To remedy that, I decided to make my annual post a celebration and reflection of another year of maintaining my blog. Better late than never, right?
Change can often be a scary thing. It’s usually attached to the unknown and unfamiliar. Our natural instinct is to resist what we don’t know or are uncomfortable with. It’s our way of protecting ourselves from what we think is a perceived danger against us. But most of the time it’s really just our fear getting in the way of seeing the opportunity to learn, grow, and further our potential far beyond than what we think we’re capable of doing. When the winds of change begin to blow in your direction, get ready to embrace it.
Running a blog for five years, like I have, is a huge deal. I never really expected to keep it going for this long. I just wanted a public space to call my own to express myself and connect with similar individuals who are just as passionate about the hobbies and interests I enjoyed. Seeing as there’s no plans to retire from my blogging gig any time soon, I decided it’s time to upgrade simpleek.
We are already in the second month of 2017 and finding plenty of time to do everything I set out to do has been a challenge. I am not off to a great start with the novel writing goal I set for myself this year and will have to figure out how to stay on track with that somehow. Certain other goals have been pushed to the top of my priority list until I can finally get those finished. This doesn’t mean I don’t indulge on the much leisurely side of things and making time for this blog as I go along. Those are very much a necessity for me. I decided to give everyone a taste of what I have been doing behind the scenes and what I hope to continue doing this month.
The collective mood towards the end of 2016 has been somber. Just about everyone couldn’t wait for the year to end and wrote it off as a year that can burn in the fiery pits of hell where it belongs. In many ways, people aren’t wrong. Our world seems to grow increasingly uncertain and scary based on what you hear and see on the news. I always try to be hopeful in the new year. I may not be able to control what’s going on around me, but I can control how I live my life. The best approach? Live your life on your own terms and make sure you’re surrounded by people who will continue to help you along the way. If something or someone drags you down, then it’s time to subtract or remove yourself from what hinders you. We’re only a few days into 2017, but there’s a number of things I’m looking forward to.
November is a special month and it isn’t because of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday here in America. It’s the month simpleek was born and my blogging journey began.
Entering the month of October for most people means there’s a lot going on from anticipated video game releases to more fall shows returning or debuting for the first time on television. October for me and the blog will be an especially busy time and I want to outline what you can expect from me this month.
