Stripes Forever: A Classic Trend That Never Goes Out Of Style

Fashion goes through cycles. One minute a trend is hot and the next minute it’s not. No style is ever really retired. It just takes a few years before a trend is announced the rage again by trendsetters and fashion editors. Despite what the trend may be for the season, some trends are timeless and can be worn season after season, year after year. Stripes are one of those classic styles that never seems to get stale.

Musterbrand: The Online Store That Knows How To Make A Geek Chic Fashion Statement

Marrying the two things I enjoy the most, fashion and geek, is always something I’m on the hunt for. I prefer subtle geek homages in the clothes I wear over the more obvious references to them in a graphic T-shirt or bag. Most of these clothes are a little hard to come by, but places like BioWare has started creating their own line of clothes for the geek who want functional styles that can be worn almost any where, instead of outside of work or at conventions. When I stumbled upon the online store Musterbrand, it’s the answer I’ve been looking for to satiate my subtle geek fashion craving.

The Handbag Of Holding: The Ultimate Bag For Any Chic Geek To Own

I’m a practical woman who likes her life organized and simple. The bag I take with me to my job during the week should be a reflection of who I am as a person. I am a fan of bags with a ton of pockets and compartments to hold the essentials I need––notebook, pen, keys, wallet, water bottle, lipstick, compact mirror, book, iPod, phone, or whatever else I can’t leave home without. I never thought there’s such a thing as a match made in handbag heaven until I met ThinkGeek’s Handbag of Holding.

Falling For You: My Top 5 Fall Fashion Essentials

The official start of the fall season is a few days away, September 22nd to be exact, but the big city I live in has already been getting a sneak preview of that autumn chill. Fall is one of my favorite seasons next to spring and I’m only too happy to stash away the summer clothes in favor of more season appropriate outfits. In preparation for the official arrival of the fall season, I’m going to list my go-to fall essentials I can never do without.

Modest And Sexy: Off The Shoulder Tops And Dresses

The older you get, the more you discover who you are and what your personal tastes are. This also translates into the type of clothes you like to wear. I naturally gravitate towards styles that are simple, feminine, and a bit dressed up. I’m a modest dresser who shies away from anything exposing too much of my body or skin to the public. A principle I have learned and adopted from my mom growing up is this, “Leave behind an air of mystery.” While some women are confidently showing off their hot bodies, I prefer to be covered in all the right places but showing a peak of skin when I want to feel a little sexy. The comeback of off the shoulder tops and dresses makes this spring and summer trend a huge personal style favorite for me.

Romper In The Sun

Summertime is the season for sun, sand, and ice cream. When the temperature climbs to near 90-degree levels with the humidity at record high suffocating, big city dwellers like me often face the conundrum of wanting to take advantage of the nicer weather but absolutely detest walking the streets in the heat. Your best bet to at least tolerate the hot air when you’re out having fun in the concrete jungle is to wear looser and cooler clothing. Among the popular ongoing style trends of the summer is the romper.

A Touch Of Geek: Personalizing My Every Day Possessions In Small Ways

I don’t particularly make it obvious how much I love watching anime, read manga, or play video games in my daily fashion choices. It’s a sentiment I have written about before on this blog and on Geek Force Network when the site used to be active. While I may not always show my pride and passion for the leisure hobbies I like to pursue during my spare time, it doesn’t mean I haven’t found smaller ways to convey my enjoyment of them.

Geek Fashion: Going Beyond The Typical Graphic T-Shirts

I don’t proclaim myself to be a fashion expert, but I have an appreciation for well put together styles, color combinations, and tasteful accessorizing. Everyone’s personal style will be different and we all have our own idea of what fashion means to us. It’s a form of creative expression and the first impression we get when we meet someone. I have mentioned it many times before that while I’m a geek at heart, my fashion choices don’t outwardly show my geeky enthusiasm. I may admire a Lara Croft T-shirt worn by a friend, but I won’t wear one myself. I may think a piece of geeky jewelry looks cool, but still not feel compelled to wear them with my clothes. My style is simple, classic, and extremely feminine with dashes of floral prints paired with comfy leather boots. When Bioware hosted a fashion show at this year’s PAX Prime in Seattle to reveal a new line of geek clothes, I fell in love at first sight.

The Creative World Of Cosplay: Why I’ll Always Admire Cosplay From Afar But Won’t Ever Participate In It

A few weekends ago, I went with a bunch of friends to a Renaissance Fair in upstate New York. It was my first time attending such an event and it was exactly how I’d expect it to be––jousts, archery, knights, pages, and lovely maidens dressed in their afternoon best. I was completely transported to another time and another world. While the workers running the fair naturally have to dress and act the part, many attendees are just as welcome to dress up and join in on the fun.

Many of the costumes I saw were impressive, even if most were bought from someplace else. Others just used what they had to create a modern day reinterpretation of what it was to live in that time period. As giddy as it made me feel to feast my eyes on all the amazing costumes I saw both men and women wear, and often finding myself daydreaming about wearing what other women were brave and creative enough to wear, I wouldn’t dare venture into cosplaying myself.

Dreamy Lace: Why Lace Is My Current Favorite Fashion Trend

Fashion trends in the last few years have been pretty lackluster for me. Going clothes shopping almost always had me leaving the stores empty handed. Nothing in the clothing racks really excited me or gave me an overwhelming sense of, “Buy me!” This has probably been a good thing for my closet space and wallet. With an upward trend and interest in more softer and feminine styles for the spring and summer seasons lately, I have a reason to get excited about shopping again and finding the clothes I really want to buy. The lace trend is the current addition to the ultra romantic and feminine looks I’ve been seeing making a comeback and I couldn’t be happier.
