Video Games Rewind: Games I’d Return To If I Had Nothing To Play

A few weekends ago I was talking to my cousin and the topic of video games came up. Out of the blue, he threw out this question to me—what video games would you come back to again and again? After all the games I have played since the time I became a gamer, a small but growing list of games has become obvious replays for me, if I weren’t going through the backlog of games I have accumulated.

Here are the games I would 100% replay if I somehow managed to play everything in my possession.

To Revisit Or Not Revisit? Why Cyberpunk 2077’s New 1.5 Patch Update Hasn’t Quite Motivated Me To Go Back To Night City

As someone who personally likes to utilize the time I have, video games are one of the areas where I do my best to spend enough time on each new game I have before moving onto the next. While there are certainly plenty of games I have played that have a ton of replay value like Mass Effect and Dragon Age, I have not gone back to replay them much only because I want to give all the other games waiting to be played their chance in the spotlight.

After playing and beating a first playthrough with Cyberpunk 2077 last year, I have been mostly waiting for the promised DLC CD Projekt Red said would be coming much later. Now with their most recently released 1.5 Patch Update, it has been touted as an entirely new experience and one the studio should have released from Day 1. However, going back into a game I already considered “done” has me feeling a bit reluctant to replay from the beginning.

Video Games In Review: What I’ve Completed In 2021

Whenever I choose a video game to play for the next few months the hope is I’ll stick with it and not stop halfway in the middle of the game. That has happened with a few games I played in the past where I start off excited to devote most of my time with a game only to abandon it for another game, or not being in the mood to play for a little while. This is why when I do commit to a game and see it all the way through, it’s a massive achievement for me personally to consider it finished and crossed off my backlog.

Here is a list of all the video games I played and beaten in 2021.

Cyberpunk 2077: A Video Game That Could Have Been So Much More

The feeling you get when you reach the end of a video game can be exciting and satisfying. Or unsatisfying if the ending wasn’t what you expected. After spending seven long months on Cyberpunk 2077, I witnessed one of many possible endings the story could have. While the ending I got had some really good moments, it wasn’t the emotional payoff I had hoped it would be. I’ll try to keep my discussion of the game as spoiler free as possible.

Waiting For The Next Job: The Downside Of Finishing Nearly All Side Quests In A Game

Being one step closer to finishing a video game often brings a mix of emotions. There’s excitement at finally knowing how everything ends and what the fate of your character will be, but there’s also a little bit of sadness for that end of the journey.

Playing Cyberpunk 2077 for me means deferring all main story quests in favor of doing all of the side missions to stretch out the game a little longer. Now that I’m almost done playing the game this had some unintended consequences I hadn’t thought about.

Cyberpunk 2077: Closing In On The End

The end is nigh for Cyberpunk 2077, a video game I played since December of last year, and one of the most contentious games to ever be released in 2020. After spending about 117 hours with the video game I have experienced the game’s highs and lows and the in-between. While I’m not quite done with Night City just yet, there have been some things that stood out during the times I played.

May Update: What I Have Been Playing, Reading, And Watching

As the weather warms up and optimism grows around the U.S. over a successful vaccine rollout, there’s potential in the air that the rest of 2021 can be salvaged. While I am one of the many eager to step out of self-hibernation and into the world once more, the past few months has been good for video games, reading, and watching. Here’s a brief roundup of what has been keeping me entertained until those summer vibes eventually lure me away from the comfort of my own home.

One Hundred Percent Completion: Finishing And Unlocking Everything In A Game

The longer I play video games the more I realize I can’t recall a time where I have ever finished a game at 100 percent. There have definitely been games where I completed the main story and even did almost all of the side quests. But being able to boast about finding every collectible there is, unlocking every secret tucked away in a level, it’s not something I can put a claim on.

V’s Got The Look: The Fashion Of Cyberpunk 2077

Three months into CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 and the game never fails to stun every time I load it up and play. Night City is a gritty, neon colored dream (or hell) and it’s easy to get lost in the different neighborhoods that make up the world. One of the things I love most about the game is the many styles and options a player has to dress up their character V. When I’m not busy hacking, shooting, or fighting my way through Night City, I’m spending part of my time hunting down new pieces of clothing to create a unique look for V. My efforts in coming up with the best outfit combinations has led to an ever growing collection of pictures of V nailing each look every time she’s out on the town. Check out my mini lookbook of V in the sleekest and cutting edge trends in Night City.

Roaming The Streets And Wide Open Spaces Of Cyberpunk 2077

March marks a whole year since this pandemic started. At this point almost everyone is feeling fatigued and frustrated with being stuck at home in an effort to curb the virus. Even self-proclaimed introverts and homebodies are longing for those days when we can gather with our friends and family, or simply enjoy a meal at a restaurant without fretting about following COVID-19 guidelines.

What I miss the most is traveling. Though the vaccines are slowly rolling out in countries all over the world, we’re currently no where near done with this pandemic just yet. What can a person who has serious wanderlust do? Fortunately, there’s video games and Cyberpunk 2077 has been one of the ones that has made me appreciate the art of savoring the places you’re in.
