End Of An Era: Slowly Parting Ways With New York City Comic Con

When we think of fall what immediately comes to mind are pumpkin spice lattes, cooler temperatures, and the turning of the leaves in an array of gorgeous colors. At least if you live in my neck of the woods. October in New York City also means it’s Comic Con season, and yet this is the year I decided to skip it entirely.

New York Comic Con 2021: What It Was Like Attending A Convention During An Ongoing Pandemic

The return to normalcy in the age of COVID-19 comes with plenty of caveats and uncertainty. The things you used to do before COVID times feels like a distant memory, where people didn’t have to weigh the potential risks and comfort levels of doing certain activities you never gave much thought to before. While the virus, unfortunately, is not over us as much as we’re over it, even with the vaccines, life does have to keep going on in some capacity. Including attending fun events like a comic convention.

Last Saturday I attended New York Comic Con at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City like I have done numerous times before the pandemic, and the experience was definitely different but fun despite the circumstances we’re still living with.

New York Comic Con 2019: A Saturday Attendance Recap

What has been an annual tradition every October, this past weekend was New York Comic Con at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. I have also stuck to my usual one day attendance to the convention, which has been Saturdays. Like in years past, New York Comic Con has been a day filled with fun, geekiness, and plenty to see or do. Without further ado, here are the highlights from my weekend at the convention!

PAX East 2019: A Recap Of My Single Day At The Convention

There are two conventions I always look forward to attending once a year—New York Comic Con and PAX East. Spring is always PAX East season, and I closed out the month of March with a weekend trip to Boston to go to the convention for the fourth time. My impression of this year’s PAX is…well…a bit disappointing.

A Geeky Report And What’s Coming Up In April

April is my favorite month for a number of reasons. It’s a time when the weather begins to get nicer. Flowers are starting to bloom all around the city. Outdoor events become more frequent. And April happens to be my birthday month! That last one will obviously make me particularly bias towards April being my number one, but there’s a lot of good things happening this month.

Saturday Fun Day At New York Comic Con 2017

October in New York City is always an exciting month. Aside from the various events happening throughout October in the city, like Oktober Fest events and the Greenwich Village Parade on Halloween, it’s also the month dedicated to comic geeks—New York Comic Con! The convention happened this past weekend and I was able to attend again this year for just one day on Saturday.

New York Comic Con 2016 In Review: Single Day Edition

When New York Comic Con descends upon the Javits Center, it almost feels as if the circus has come into town. Oh what a circus it is filled with parades of Harley Quinns and Luigis of all shapes and sizes. It’s impossible to contain the energy and excitement that’s felt near and around the convention center. October is the month locals and out of towners look forward to each year to be a part of the geekiest and nerdiest love fest you’ll ever see, and attending just one day of the convention is still enough for me to get my fix every year.

New York Comic Con 2015 In Review

I’m a season pro of these comic conventions, having gone for about five years, and the experience hasn’t gotten stale for me. Not yet anyway. The energy and excitement near and inside the convention is undeniable. Everyone is happy to be there and we’re all holding our breaths in anticipation of what we’ll be seeing and experiencing this year. Without further delay, here’s a full breakdown of what my convention experience has been like when New York Comic Con hit the Big Apple last weekend.

New York Comic Con 2015 Sneak Peak

Another successful New York Comic Con came and went this past weekend. This year, I have been fortunate enough to score 3-day passes to the biggest geek love fest our city has proudly embraced and marketed the hell out of in the last few years. Purchasing the coveted tickets gets increasingly difficult year after year, as this convention has grown in popularity and demand over time. I thank a higher power who seems to love me and enable me to go to the convention year after year since I haven’t missed one yet when I first started going a few years ago.

The Creative World Of Cosplay: Why I’ll Always Admire Cosplay From Afar But Won’t Ever Participate In It

A few weekends ago, I went with a bunch of friends to a Renaissance Fair in upstate New York. It was my first time attending such an event and it was exactly how I’d expect it to be––jousts, archery, knights, pages, and lovely maidens dressed in their afternoon best. I was completely transported to another time and another world. While the workers running the fair naturally have to dress and act the part, many attendees are just as welcome to dress up and join in on the fun.

Many of the costumes I saw were impressive, even if most were bought from someplace else. Others just used what they had to create a modern day reinterpretation of what it was to live in that time period. As giddy as it made me feel to feast my eyes on all the amazing costumes I saw both men and women wear, and often finding myself daydreaming about wearing what other women were brave and creative enough to wear, I wouldn’t dare venture into cosplaying myself.
