One of the things I love about a new year is the chance to start fresh. There’s an opportunity for things to be different and to change aspects of your life that could use a little upgrade. That may sound very Pollyanna but I’ve always been an optimist at heart even as time, experience, and the state of the world has made me a tad cynical over the years. I like to hold onto a bit of hope during these tough times.
Now that it’s 2022 here are some of the goals I’m looking to achieve in this new year.

Video Games
After completing a hefty amount of games last year I’m hoping to continue that streak and increase that count this year. Of course it depends on the length of the game and how much spare time I have in the coming months. Considering I didn’t have a set goal in mind of how many games I want to finish in a year during 2021, I think it’s reasonable to apply that same approach here.
There are plenty of games in my backlog to pick and choose from, with a number of new additions added recently through Christmas presents, and it’ll be interesting to see which ones I’ll pick up and commit to in 2022.
Books
For the past two years I have been very ambitious about the amount of books I want to read in a year. Last year I have read a grand total of 21 books and normally I would try to top that in the new year by upping that number. This year, however, I plan to keep my reading goals modest.
The plan is to read and finish at least one or two of the multi-book series, sprawling fantasies, that I currently own. Reading a lengthy fantasy series is a huge time commitment and it wouldn’t make sense to try and fit in other books in between. Usually when that happens, in my experience, I tend to stray away from the series I started reading until a year or two had gone by and I’m left with an unfinished series and a hazy memory of what happened from the last book I had read from it.
By staying focused on one particular series, and shunning all other books until I’m done, is a reasonable goal to achieve and one I plan on finishing before the end of the year.
Writing
I’ve made significant headway with my writing goals last year, doing way more writing than I have done in the past. Being able to stick to a consistent writing schedule has been key here. By doing a little bit of writing, even for an hour, gets you further along with your story than not having written anything at all.
I didn’t exactly finish the first draft of my fantasy novel last year like I had wanted but the important thing is I had finished writing a number of chapters in 2021, while also completing a few short stories in between that time.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that 2022 will be the year I finish a full rough draft of my work in progress, and I can’t wait until that day finally arrives. Granted I’ll have to edit and rewrite heavily when the first draft is done but I’ll be halfway there when I get to that stage of the writing process!
My goals may feel like more of the same as in the previous years, but I’m excited to see what I can get done in this new year.
