Look Who’s Coming To Dinner: Video Game Characters I Would Want To Have Over On Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving is a time for family and friends to get together, share a meal, and reflect on what we’re most thankful for in our lives. What I love about this holiday is the opportunity to spend time with those we love and care about the most and eating until our stomachs can barely make room for a slice of some good ‘ol pumpkin pie. Big gatherings, like the ones we have on Thanksgiving, often needs a person or two who can liven things up. Thinking of some of the video game characters who have made the biggest impression on me, I couldn’t resist picking who I would want to have at my Thanksgiving feast if it were possible. Two characters from my favorite video game series of all time immediately came to mind—Varric and Iron Bull of Dragon Age.

The moment Varric and Iron Bull were introduced in Dragon Age 2 and Dragon Age: Inquisition respectively, there was a magnetic quality about both of them. They’re charming in their own way—Varric with his smart ass and silver tongued quips and Iron Bull with his boisterous and good-natured manner. Their companionship seems relaxed and carefree whenever you strike a conversation with either of them. Neither really takes themselves too seriously and they’re fun to be around. With guests like them, how could you ever get bored?

Varric and Iron Bull would know how to keep a room going and the guests completely entertained. I’d imagine Varric would regale people with stories of his adventures, real or imagined, as people lazily settle in to give their Thanksgiving dinner time to digest. Or Iron Bull would be laughing heartily on the other side of the room, his tenth pint of beer clutched in his hand, as he engages in a friendly arm wrestling match with anyone who’s willing (or foolish) to test their might against the hulking Qunari.

Gatherings are always better when someone is the life of the party, and with Varric and Iron Bull in attendance, they’ll get the party started and lasting until the wee hours of the morning. It may be the perfect time to get everyone left standing dealt in on a game of Wicked Grace. Just watch out for Varric. He may get everyone stripped down to their birthday suit by the end of the night if you aren’t looking, like our poor Commander of the Inquisition.

Happy Thanksgiving! Which video game characters would you want to invite over for Thanksgiving or any dinner?

  1. Fun post! I guess for me it would be Lara Croft from Tomraider, Marcus Fenix from Gears of War and Masterchief from Halo. Just because they are all very cool characters 😀

  2. Great choices! They would be so much fun at Thanksgiving dinner. I would probably invite Varric too! Also maybe Nathan Drake, partly for the stories he would tell about all of his adventures. 🙂

    1. I haven’t played any of the Uncharted series, but from what I can tell about Nathan Drake, he’s an adventurer that would be chock full of stories to tell. I’ll even bet Varric and Nathan would be competing on whose story is more compelling, haha! 🙂

  3. Great choice – that’d be a fun Thanksgiving, eventhough we dont celebrate it in Germany. But if we would I’d invite Varric and the Master Chief, oh and don’t forget Garrus ;P

    1. Ooh Garrus is a good one too! I’ll bet he’ll have some good stories to share around the table. I also picture Garrus being the type of Turian to tinker with something mechanical in between digesting a large amount a food. He’s the best with his calibrations and all. 🙂
