Video Game Challenge Progress Report (Redux Edition Part 5): Phoenix Wright – Dual Destinies

Some of you might feel a bit confused by the number on the title if you haven’t been following my ongoing video game challenge series for the blog. The number corresponds to the last time I played Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies when it was my spotlight game to finish in a month. Or rather, over the next few months. It was set aside to play Mass Effect: Andromeda back in March until I satisfactorily beat the game. With Andromeda done and off my backlog list, I decided to turn my attention back to Dual Destinies for the month of August. Quick warning, there will be light spoilers about Dual Destinies.

Duolingo: The App Game That’s Fun And Educates

Almost everyone owns a smartphone. An entire life, both personal and professional, resides in that slim glowing gadget in your hand. We use apps to manage our day-to-day or to keep us occupied when you’re stuck on a semi-long commute to work on a bus or train. When game apps, especially free to download ones, were a huge thing in the early days of smartphones, it was the kind of mindless distraction you wanted to have with a tap of a finger. Angry Birds, Candy Crush, and Fruit Ninja were among the earlier app games that were simple to play in 10 to 20 minute bursts. It achieved the goal these games were meant to do––make the time go faster when you’re in the middle of a not so fun task or situation. Now we’re overwhelmed by so many similar game apps that it’s hard to keep track of. Over time, you become less invested in these game apps until they start collecting digital dust on your phone from lack of use. I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t really want to own mindless simplistic apps that serves no real purpose in my daily life. I needed an app game that’s entertaining but with a purpose. This is when Duolingo entered my digital life.

When the winds of change begin to blow in your direction, get ready to embrace it.

Yuri!!! On Ice: What I Hope To See In Season 2 Of The Series

The anime Yuri!!! On Ice, about a Japanese ice skater named Yuri Katsuki, who is at a crossroads in his life after facing a crushing defeat during the Grand Prix Final, and the renown Russian figure skater Victor Nikiforov, who is inspired to be Yuri’s coach after seeing secretly recorded footage of Yuri skating in the rink, has been the runaway hit series of 2016. It’s also one of the rarer anime series to prominently feature a positive same-sex relationship between two men. I had the pleasure of finally finishing all 12-episodes of Yuri recently on Crunchyroll, and I’m definitely excited for more of this delightful show. Whenever Yuri comes back for a Season 2, there’s a number of things I hope to see in the new season. There will be some light spoilers about the anime, so read at your own risk.
