A Month In Video Games And Looking Toward August

Normally, this is about the time I would have a report about my latest progress with the video game I chose to finish in a month posted. If you followed along with me so far, you would know I managed to finish my ongoing video game challenge with Mass Effect: Andromeda a lot sooner than I had originally anticipated. Rather than choose an official video game challenge to replace the one I finished, I decided to use the rest of the month to play whatever game I wanted. I’ve done well in the backlog department, and I’m here to recap the games I completed or have been playing with a formal announcement on what video game I’ll be focusing on for August.

Aside from Andromeda being the biggest game I finished, I moved onto picking up where I left off with Final Fantasy XV. As you may have also seen on the site, I have since finished FFXV along with its corresponding DLC, Episode Gladiolus and Episode Prompto, released for the game so far. I could talk about my impressions on playing through the episodes focused on Noctis’s bros, but I wish to reserve that until Episode Ignis comes out in December. Once I finish the last of the companion DLC episodes, I can give a better overview and ranking on what I thought of each episode.

After I finished Final Fantasy XV, the next game on my list to occupy my month in gaming was Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. The last time I played Shadow of Mordor was back in 2015 when I attempted to make it my video game challenge, but never completed it successfully. Deciding to pick it up again, I managed to go through the rest of story mode without much effort to finally finish it. That too has been struck off my backlog, which means I’ll be totally prepared for Middle-earth: Shadow of War when it releases later this year.

With three games finished in a month, I’ve gone back and forth playing Lego Marvel’s Avengers on the Xbox One and Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright for the Nintendo 3DS. I currently haven’t finished either of these games, but they’re games I’ve been enjoying during a month of non-video game challenges. Now that August is nearly here, I want to go back to setting up an official video game challenge for myself. I decided I’m officially going back to Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies for the month of August. I’ll be focusing on one game again, and I’m hoping my streak with knocking games out of the park will continue into the next month.

Check back at the end of August to see if I can finally strike Dual Destinies off my backlog list!
