The Handbag Of Holding: The Ultimate Bag For Any Chic Geek To Own

I’m a practical woman who likes her life organized and simple. The bag I take with me to my job during the week should be a reflection of who I am as a person. I am a fan of bags with a ton of pockets and compartments to hold the essentials I need––notebook, pen, keys, wallet, water bottle, lipstick, compact mirror, book, iPod, phone, or whatever else I can’t leave home without. I never thought there’s such a thing as a match made in handbag heaven until I met ThinkGeek’s Handbag of Holding.

The Handbag of Holding, or what I own, the Deluxe Handbag of Holding, has way more storage than I know what to do with them. There’s two front pockets with metal snap enclosures, two wider front and outer pockets, a padded inner pocket to carry a tablet or laptop, and many more places for storing whatever else you can think of for your personal items. The geeky touch comes in the form of a tiny d20 die on the zipper. Anyone who is a Dungeons and Dragons fan will love this personal touch to ThinkGeek’s bag. If you really need a bag to carry just your D&D materials to a friend’s house, there isn’t any other bag perfectly suited for the job like the Handbag of Holding. The bag is really classy, stylish, and subtly geeky. My favorite kind of fashion.

The work bag I can't do without along with my Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Moon adornments.

Honestly, I wouldn’t have known about the Handbag of Holding if it wasn’t for one of my best friends. At the time, I was in the market for a new work bag because my other one was starting to show some wearing and tearing after plenty of usage. I never really voiced my desire to get a new handbag out loud to anyone. It was something I personally filed away in the back of my mind to eventually purchase when I had the extra money to spare. I found it funny how perfect everything turned out when my friend and I met up to exchange Christmas presents and he presented me with this bag.

My best friend would admit he’s not exactly the most fashion savvy guy in the world and I don’t expect him to be. We wouldn’t be friends for years if I expected him to be anything other than himself. He keeps it simple with jeans and lots of graphic T-shirts that showcase his super geeky side or his sly sense of humor. When it came to getting me a Christmas gift, he told me the bag was an inspired choice he happen to see at the store. Receiving the now sold out Deluxe Handbag of Holding from him is perfect in many ways because he’s also the one who brought me into the world of Dungeons and Dragons when I was looking to participate in a campaign to experience what almost everyone has played in some capacity, whether as a hardcore or casual player. D&D will always be associated to him.

I may have been saved from actually purchasing the Handbag of Holding myself but if you want style, utility, and practicality, this may be the bag for you. Whether you’re going to work or class or getting ready to slay dragons, the Handbag of Holding will be what you’ll want at your side at all times.

  1. Awww what a nice present! That bag looks amazing. I have seen the default version on ThinkGeek before but I never looked into it very much. I like your deluxe version a lot! It’s nice that it’s got a geeky side but overall it looks very sleek and sophisticated. I love the black color, and your adornments are so cute! It’s always nice to add a personal touch to things. Those seem very “you”. 🙂

    1. Haha, I can’t possibly go without Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask at my side. Helps me slay the day, you know? 😉 After looking at the bag my friend gave me and comparing it with the other Handbag of Holding, I agree! I really like the deluxe one so much better. It’s more my style than the other one. It’s also a little dressier than the original, so it can be both a casual or formal bag! Love geeky subtlety too.

  2. I wish I had seen this post earlier, because I *just* bought a new bag myself. While it’s nice, it’s nothing compared to this! It looks incredibly useful, stylish, and professional. And it’s great that its geekiness is both obvious (if you know D&D, that is) and subtle.

It’d be nice, too, to see more handbag makers clue into this design, because those outside pockets are super awesome and important! Too many women’s bags either have no outside storage or way too many pockets/zippers/baubles. Plus, the styling is just great, not too plain and not too gaudy. And it give you plenty of room to personalize. 🙂

I know I’ll be in the market for a new bag next year, so I’m going to keep my eye on ThinkGeek when the time comes round.

    1. I know! This bag was heaven sent when my friend picked this out as my Christmas gift. 😀 I’m very picky with handbags. They’re either too big, too small, too much decoration, or not enough storage. This bag has the right balance of everything I need and more! I still have leftover pockets I don’t really use for anything, but it’s nice to know they’re there should I ever find use for them.

The one I have is sold out, if you click on the link, but maybe ThinkGeek will restock it at some point since it seems like the Deluxe edition is a popular sell. Hopefully, you can purchase your own Handbag of Holding when the time is right!

  3. That bag does look pretty awesome, and I love the subtle geekery of it 🙂 I did have to look at the source link though to get an idea of the size–it’s much larger than your picture implies! That really does look perfect for a daily commute bag. I wish I could see how it compares to your actual frame, if it’s smaller or bigger than how it looks with the model.

    1. It’s a great bag for work. 🙂 I’d say the bag I have is a medium sized one. Not too big or small. The inside is very roomy with plenty of pockets. You can also either have it as a shoulder bag or use it as a cross body one since it includes a long strap to attach to the bag. The bag is really versatile to suit the person’s needs or usage. 😀

  4. Great gift, awesome bag! I know exactly why this bag appeals, I’m very particular about my bags too. I need lots of little pockets, a strap that allows me to carry it on my shoulder. I need to be able to get to my phone without unzipping the whole thing. Well, you get the picture. I’ll go and check out this bag right now! By the way, I have a keychain of Mable adorning my current bag!

    1. Haha, that’s great! Any way to personalize your own bags is an awesome plus. This is why I don’t like bags that have too much decoration. I like mine simple and practical. This Handbag of Holding has it in spades. Pockets for easy access to your stuff, like your phone, is definitely essential which is why a bag with not enough storage won’t do for me at all!
