Video Game Challenge For May: Game Number Ten Revealed

As the temperature outside starts warming up and some of your favorite TV  shows start finishing up for the season, it can either be extremely easy or difficult to focus on other leisure pursuits, like video games. Video games tend to be more of an activity that’s suited for those days when the weather is cold, damp, or just plain crappy. What better way to occupy that time with playing a game that’s fun and immersive. When you have more free time during the late spring and summer months, video games can also be a great source for filling up your extra free time. Of course, this might also be a problem when you’re done hibernating for the season and want to go outside and enjoy the day. To suit my small pockets of free time and my on-the-go nature during these warm weather days, I picked a game that would enable me to get my gaming fix no matter where I go.

My last few video game challenges have been focused solely on the console, the Xbox console to be more exact. Taking stock of all the games I still need to play, my eyes kept lingering on my Nintendo 3DS. It isn’t like my handheld system is being sorely neglected. I occasionally plug in about an hour of gaming time for Animal Crossing: New Leaf to check on my town and do some minor grounds upkeep. Seeing as how I have a good number of games for the 3DS that hasn’t been played or are still in progress, I thought it was time I gave the Xbox a much needed rest and let another system shine. This month’s video game challenge is Fire Emblem: Awakening.

Similar to my gaming experience with Final Fantasy IV for the DS, I kept consistently playing Fire Emblem: Awakening until time or other games distracted me and pulled me away from ever finishing the game. Awakening is a really good tactical RPG and a great introduction into the Fire Emblem games for someone like me who has never played any of them before.

I have at least progressed half-way into the story before setting it aside. I don’t recall having too much trouble completing each chapter of the story, as my strategy thus far in Awakening has proven to be decent. It’s very possible this can shift at any moment once I start playing the game again, but I’m hoping I can reach the end without any major hiccups. After playing and finishing Sunset Overdrive, Awakening is the perfect game to play next to indulge my love for good stories and equally fascinating characters,

Will I emerge victorious with Chrom at my side? Find out later this month with my full report!

  1. Yes! 😀 This is a fantastic choice, I love this game so much! It’s one of my top favorites, and I actually have been playing it again recently. It has great replay value and it’s an awesome game! I hope you enjoy it!

    1. Thanks! I really did like the game when I was playing it consistently. I still do! I’m actually not too far from finishing the main story, but I did like doing the other side stuff in the game like the paralogues. I really took my time with Awakening, but I might try focusing on finishing the main story for my challenge. I’m hoping I can find time to do another playthrough of Awakening, but it’s just adding to an already long list of games I want to replay again! 🙂

    1. Yeah, it’s one of those games that’s long overdue for completion status. I’ve always loved the game, but just got distracted from actually finishing it overtime. Keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll succeed in finishing it!

  2. Looking forward to hearing more about this one! It’s one of those games that I’ve heard a lot of favorable things about, but have not heard much in the way of detail. Been meaning to look it up, but I somehow always forget to do it. 😀

    1. It’s a really great game if you’re into strategy RPGs. I’m actually kind of scolding myself for not having finished this one a long time ago. Especially since, like Final Fantasy IV, I’m actually a few chapters shy of actually completing it. Very determined to have this one on the books as done. 🙂
