Long Weekends and First Post At United We Game

For those of us who live in the USA, we have been enjoying a three day weekend because of Memorial Day. While this weekend is considered the kick off to the summer season and a chance to hit the beaches and to have barbeques, it’s obviously a day to remember those who have fought and died for our country.

Mondays are my usual days for updates on this blog, but just for this week I will be on a mini-hiatus. As much as I wanted to have something ready for today, my weekend has been a bit busy. I spent part of my weekend fighting off a minor cold, and I managed to nip that in the bud before it got worse. Then, I also attended a special event for my best friend’s daughter. Overall, it became impossible to sit down and concentrate on one post for this week. Sometimes it’s just good to take a little break from writing to relax and recharge.

Don’t fret though. If you missed it over the weekend, my very first post over at United We Game is now up. It’s more of an introductory post about my relationship to games and why I have seen myself as the intermediate gamer. Give it a read if you haven’t already. Don’t forget to also look for my usual posts at Geek Force Network tomorrow. I hope those posts will keep all my lovely readers satisfied until I come back with a brand new post next Monday. Until then!

The Dazzling World of Baz Lurhmann

Last week I watched The Great Gatsby directed by Baz Lurhmann and starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby and Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan. Maybe you might be expecting me to review this movie on my blog, and I have considered it but I won’t. It’s not like I don’t have much to say on the film, but I rather do a comparison post between film and book at a later date when I have reread the book again. The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald is one of my favorite books, and to try and even talk about the movie in relation to the book would be difficult. It has been years since I’ve read Gatsby and my memory on all the details of the book are fuzzy at best. I don’t think I would do the post justice if I tried to review the movie.

Pull Your Pants Up!

For those who have been interested in reading my Fashionista Musings portions of the blog, I typically discuss my opinions for certain trends in women’s fashion. To shift gears for a bit for this week’s fashion focus post, I tackle a trend that’s hardly new for men, but not a trend I find particularly attractive either. What am I talking about? The saggy pants look of course.

The Future Is––GFN

If you have visited my blog recently, you may notice that the right hand sidebar now features a square logo with “GFN” in big letters. You must also be wondering, “What the hell is GFN?” I’m so glad you asked! GFN stands for Geek Force Network. That’s right. The simpleek blog is now a proud member of the Geek Force Network. The basic gist of GFN is uniting a bunch of talented, silly, and maybe a little crazy group of bloggers, podcasters, and video producers under one roof to bring all you wonderful people out there the best in geeky content.

As The World Falls Down – A Labyrinth Retrospective

Labyrinth is one of my all time favorite movies from the ’80s. Read my guest post at Robo♥Beat as I gush and reminisce over the movie from my childhood.

Robo♥beat

This week’s post is special, because it’s a guest post from fellow blogger simpleek! Her blog focuses on a video games, manga, anime, and fashion. I can’t remember exactly how I discovered her site last summer, but I imagine it was one of her lovely Mass Effect-related posts that initially drew me in… Whatever the case, she is one of my all-time favorite writers, and I highly recommend you check out her site if you haven’t already! Here, she pens (er, types) all about why she loves the ’80s movie Labyrinth, which I really want to watch again now…

Ah, the ’80s. A decade full of big hair, leg warmers, acid wash jeans, and cheesy, and at times, downright strange films. Howard the Duck, anyone? I was born in the ’80s, and while most of my growing up has been done in the ’90s, I was still…
