It has been quite sometime since I wrote a fashion related post, and I want to talk about bright color options found in skinny jeans. My style has always been classic and unfussy. This also extends to colors. I am attracted to soft colors like rose pink or mint green and basic colors like black, white, and gray. These basic colors extend to the jeans and pants I wear.
My personal color preference for jeans has always been dark blue and black with the occasional light blue and faded mixed in my drawers. I can’t tell you how much I love dark colored jeans. I find it easier to dress dark jeans up at a moments notice if I don’t want to go all out for a night on the town.

Skinny jeans are one of my favorite types of jeans because it hugs my legs just right, and it works well with knee-high boots or a pair of high-heels. With the popularity of skinny jeans right now, the colors have also gotten bold and creative. Tired of the same old basic colors? You can now wear red, yellow, or green skinny jeans and pants.
I am on the fence when it comes to how I feel about the beyond basic colors for skinny jeans. On the one hand, it can be worn well if you pair it with the right top. But on the other hand, it becomes too much of a color overload for your outfit. The last thing I want to be is a human-sized rainbow walking down the streets of New York City.
I like sticking to the basic colors of jeans because I don’t want to draw all the attention to my pants. I like the focus to be on the top I wear, or how my outfit looks as a whole rather than just a piece. I also prefer low-key outfits over the ones that make you stand out, as I have stated before in past Fashionista Musings posts.
I’m not sure if it’s a New York thing, but I haven’t seen too many people rocking the colored jeans in public. I have maybe seen one or two people with this look, and the rest stick to the tried and true black or navy blue jeans. Then again, there is a joke out there somewhere about how we New Yorkers just love our dark, monotonous colors. I apparently fall in that category then.
I do admire those women who want to be the splash of color that lights up the sea of black and white you see daily on the streets. It shows you are fun, confident, and a bit of a risk-taker. And that’s what fashion should be about. It’s about expressing who you are through what you wear, and just having fun with it. I may not be ready to embrace a banana yellow pair of skinny jeans to wear with my day-to-day outfit for now, but I can still draw fashion inspiration from those who do. Who doesn’t want to feel bold and beautiful now and then?
What are your thoughts on colored skinny jeans? Love them or hate them?
I’ve been wanting to buy a pair of colorful skinny jeans for a long time now. I love the idea of wearing them with a simple black top, so the outfit isn’t too overdone and retains some sophistication. But then, living in San Francisco, there are a LOT of colorful clothes to be seen everywhere, so I guess I shouldn’t be shy! Personally I like wearing bright colors, but only paired with something more subdued.
Also, I agree with you about dark jeans! I love them for dressing up when I don’t REALLY want to dress up.
It’s interesting that you mention how San Francisco natives seem to dress in lots of colors. I think styles and tastes tend to vary from city to city. I visited San Francisco a few years ago, and the way people dress there is definitely a lot different compared to here. I always thought it was funny that New Yorkers tend to shy away from bright colors even if it is the fashion trend right now. But if colorful skinny jeans is something you have been wanting to wear, I say go for it! Nothing should stop you from trying it, right? 😉
Hi there! Loving your blog, my name is Katie Elliott I am the creator of Tag a Trend.co.uk (www.tagatrend.co.uk) The website works like this: each week I announce a new fashion trend, and people then tag themselves on Facebook wearing that trend. This is done by tagging their picture with the Tag a Trend Facebook page. The best pics then appear on my site.
This week’s trend is skinny jeans and as can see you are loving the trend, I thought you might be interested in getting involved and tagging yourself in your fave pair. The picture will appear on both my site and Facebook (both with a direct link back to your blog.)
Look forward to hearing from you!
Katie
I definitely love skinny jeans. I also checked out your site and you have a great concept. I won’t be able to participate at the moment for this week’s trend, but I look forward to seeing more from your blog!
I have the regular blue jeans type, or black pants…. then I wear a splashy red blouse or coat… skinny’s for me too, especially this winter when I love wearing boots.
Yeah, I completely love skinny jeans with boots, whether it’s the long riding boots or short ankle boots. It’s a great casual or dressy look.
I love jeans all around because they are very comfy, but I’m with you, I wouldn’t wear any pants beyond my usual colours of: black, cream, white, brown, navy, or grey. I guess if you wear a black or white top, pink or green pants won’t be that intense, but I’ve always liked monotonous colours too, so I can’t see myself trying something more bold. x3
Yeah, I keep seeing a lot of colored skinny jeans in stores but they just don’t appeal to me at all. It definitely looks great on other people when I see them walking down the street, but on me, nah I won’t wear them.
I’ve just recently gotten into the whole colored jeans fad, but like you, I tend to stick to the more neutral colors of muted blues and grays. I also picked up a stylish pair with vertical blue/white stripes and already feel like I’m pushing my fashion borders :p I love the idea of color jeans, and even some of the patterns, but haven’t had any success with liking any of the ones that I’ve tried. Like you, maybe my preferences are shaped by living in the cloudy NW–I also like clothing I can easily pair with lots of other outfits.
Something else I’ve noted about skinny jeans is how difficult it can be to pull them off depending on your body type. I think they look great on smaller frames…but maybe that’s my own insecurity about my bit too soft weight ^^ I keep thinking how much greater my outfit would look if I were just x pounds skinnier, so I could pair the skinnies with a loose top.
Yeah, I think colored jeans are something you absolutely love or don’t care for at all. I just like keeping my jeans as the base to build off of what my top and accessories should be for the day. I’m not too fond of the patterned jeans that are also getting popular right now. I think it’s a bit too much for my taste. I actually think skinny jeans can be worn by any body type. You just have to find the right fit for you!
